Former Real Madrid captain Dani Carvajal may have found a new team as La Liga outfit Getafe are reportedly in talks to find an agreement for a transfer.
When legends move from where they made their name, they tend to take their time to choose their next destination, to ensure that they are a good fit for their new team.
The erstwhile Spain international left the Bernabeu at the end of the 2025-26 season, and has remained without a club for the first two full months of the 2026-27 season.
Carvajal is believed to be interested in moving to the Coliseum in Southern Madrid, where he would play under manager Jose Bordalas.
Bordalas Seduces Carvajal Ahead of Shock Getafe Move
Carvajal has largely flown under the radar since leaving Real Madrid after an injury-hit final season at the Bernabeu.
There were a couple of links to clubs around Europe all summer, but nothing concrete emerged from the rumours.
According to ABC, talks are at an advanced stage for Carvajal to pitch his tent with Getafe in what would be one of the most surprising domestic transfers of the season.
In looking to join Getafe, it appears as if Carvajal, who spent around a decade as the starting right-back for Real Madrid during a golden era of European dominance, has prioritized remaining in Spain and staying close to his home in the Spanish capital.
A decisive factor in the deal has been head coach Jose Bordalas, who made direct contact with the veteran defender to pitch his tactical vision, promising him an integral leadership role inside the dressing room.
Bordalas' team are 11th in La Liga, having picked up eight points from seven games so far, and are in the league phase of the UEFA Conference League.
Medical Verification & La Liga Financial Rules: The Final Obstacles
Getafe are prepared to accelerate talks and have Carvajal undergo a medical, particularly given his knee injury history.
They have scheduled rigorous medical tests to evaluate Carvajal’s knee joint following the serious ligament injury he suffered during his final seasons at Real Madrid.
Also, they are working directly with La Liga officials to navigate wage bill restrictions for their marquee signing.
They have increased their salary cap to €57 million, €22 million more than last January, marking a significant improvement in their spending power.
Still, the club must carefully structure Carvajal’s contract to ensure seamless registration within financial fair play parameters.
Dani Carvajal: From Real Madrid to Getafe
Carvajal enjoyed legendary status at the end of his career with Real Madrid, having made his debut for the club in 2013.
The 34-year-old spent the entirety of his senior career on the books of Los Blancos, apart from a season-long loan at Bayer Leverkusen in the 2012-13 season.
He played 451 times for Real Madrid, scoring 14 goals and providing 62 assists, including several memorable ones.
He won six Champions Leagues, six Club World Cups, five UEFA Super Cups, four La Liga titles, two Copa del Rey trophies, and 4 Spanish Super Cups.
Carvajal is Real Madrid's second-most decorated player in history with 27 titles, one behind Luka Modric's tally of 28 titles with the Spanish giants.
The veteran right-back won the European Championship with Spain in 2024 and will be a quality addition for Getafe if the move does go through.
